We start with foundational exercises that will help you excel in understanding proportions, gesture drawing, and basic anatomy, ensuring you have a solid base to build on. To get started, you’ll need:

• Drawing pen: While you can use either pencil or pen, I highly recommend using a pen. After teaching for over 20 years, I've found that students tend to get the best results and build confidence more quickly when they use pen, as it forces them to commit to their lines. Not erasing is one of the core concepts of The Marion Method of drawing, which is taught throughout this course. Embracing the pen will help you draw with bolder confidence, and you'll see your skills improve faster by learning to work with what’s on the page.
• Paper: While you can use a sketchbook, I strongly recommend using regular copy paper—the kind you use in your printer. It’s inexpensive, and you can get a stack of sheets for just a few bucks on Amazon. Using copy paper helps remove the pressure to make every drawing perfect. Without that pressure, you’ll have more fun, and instead of trying to make the drawing “incredible,” you’ll be freer to experiment. This approach prevents your drawings from feeling stiff or forced, and the more you enjoy the process, the more you’ll want to draw. The more you draw, the faster you’ll improve!
• Painter's tape: You’ll need painter's tape to create your (reportage) panoramic drawings. This tape will allow you to tape multiple sheets of paper together, giving you more space to keep drawing. Painter's tape is perfect because it’s not too sticky, so you can easily remove it later without damaging your drawing. It’s a simple tool that helps you work more freely and effectively!

The course is structured to be flexible, allowing you to learn at your own pace. Each module includes approximately 15–30 minutes of video instruction, with practice exercises that will take an additional 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete. A recommended approach is to dedicate 3–4 hours per week, but the beauty of this course is that you can adapt it to fit your schedule.
